Prayer requires boldness because sometimes the answer to our prayers is not pleasant. Sometimes it can mean suffering and even death, as when Jesus prayed, “not my will but yours be done.”11 As agents of the kingdom, we should pray boldly for the fullness of the kingdom—no matter what the immediate consequences. Praying with boldness involves the courage to keep praying even in the face of discomfort, danger, and death. There is no place for fear—other than the fear of the Lord—among God’s people in the Now-But-Not-Yet kingdom.
